New Public Service Reform Initiative Unveiled

Ondo state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has applauded the state public servants for their vital roles and good relationship which has made his administration recorded modest feats since inception.

He therefore assured the public servants in the state of his administration’s resolve to continue to give them necessary support to enable them continue to perform efficiently and effectively in the discharge of their duties.

The governor who spoke at the 2019 Public Service Anniversary Lecture and Reform Launch, held at the International Centre for Culture and Events (The Dome), Akure, the Ondo state capital, specifically described public servants as very special because of their great influence in governance.

Akeredolu while also calling for effective utilisation of ICT among the state public servants for effective and efficient service delivery, disclosed that his administration did not take ICT for granted, hence it has established three functional Tech Hubs in the state for the development of the youths.

The theme of the event is, “ICT and Innovative Governance: Panacea for Youth Unemployment and Migration”.

At the event, the Governor was decorated as the Patron of the state Public Service in recognition of commitment and the love the Governor has shown the Public servants.

At the special event, Akeredolu equally unveiled a new Public Service Reform Initiative for the Public Service in the state, saying the move was part of his administration’s determined efforts aimed at repositioning the State Public Service for optimum performance and excellent service delivery.

According to the governor, with the launch of the new Public Service Reform, tagged, “The Ondo Service Improvement Programme” (ODSIP), Public Servants in the state are expected to demostrate the motto of the Reform, which is “To Give My Best”.

Akeredolu stated that he would also be happy to see a more dedicated, resourceful, professional and reengineered bureaucracy in the State, just as he advised them not to allow themselves to be used to sabotage government’s developmental efforts, but always give priority to good work ethics, probity, revenue generation and assets maintenance.

According to the governor, in Nigeria in general and Ondo State in particular, since its creation in 1994, Public Service has played a central role in governance to the extent that one cannot imagine a flow of governance in its absence.

Earlier, the state Head of Service, Mr Dare Aragbaiye, who particularly  applauded governor Akeredolu for his love for the state civil service also assured the governor that the public service was poised to retool itself by itself, for quality service delivery.

Aragbaiye who also lauded Akeredolu for giving priority to welfare of workers through regular payment of salaries including offsetting six months arrears owed by the past administration, promotion of workers, further explained that the new service reform initiative would, henceforth, provide the direction for the bureaucracy.

He affirmed that, as public servants, they must continually play their roles with the goal of efficient and effective service delivery as the goal at all times.

Also, the Chairman on the occasion, Baba Ijo Olujimi Ogunkua, expressed delight that the current Head of Service, Mr. Aragbaiye and his management team with their political will to have a purposeful public service focused on reform for efficiency in the state.
