Nigerian Football Supporters Club (NFSC), during the weekend performed the investiture of Distinguished Patrons and Matrons for Nasarawa State chapter of the Club, at Lafia Stadium, Lafia.

The event, which was first of its kind in Nasarawa State, was put together to further lend credence to the fact that the Nigerian Football Supporters Club was poised to have its members from across the country as well as remind Nasarawa State people of their value and importance to the success of the nation’s sporting teams.

In his opening remark, State Chairman, Nigerian Football Supporters’ Club, Mr. Lawrence Shammah, who spoke on behalf of the Northern Zonal Coordinator, Elder Joseph Akande , appreciated the national and zonal leaderships of the Club for deeming Nasarawa State fit for inclusion into its activities, promising to do everything within his cradle to produce a formidable chapter that will be of immense contribution to the Club.

Speaking, National Chairman of the Club, Reverend Samuel Ikpea, explained that the aim of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club is to cheer Nigerian sporting teams to victory across the globe, stating that Nasarawa State was strategic in the activities of the Supporters Club,  hence the need to undertake the onerous task.

“Am here in Nasarawa State with my team because some critical stakeholders had made efforts in the past to be part of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club, but each attempt failed.

“But this year  2020, we decided to come all the way from Lagos and other parts of the country to investiture some of the elites here as patrons and matrons of the Supporters Club in the State. This, we hope, will encourage the quick launch of the Nasarawa State Chapter of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club.

“We are so happy with the response of the people we met on ground, which was why we had to give them twenty free membership slots in addition to the existing twenty to make it forty, which is the benchmark for the State Chapter’s inauguration. Though this cost a lot, but we have to do it because Nasarawa State is very strategic to our activities”, Reverend Ikpea said.

Among those investitured today were Hon. Othman Bala Adam represented by the Director of Technical, Mustapha Sani (Commissioner For Youth and Sports Development,Nasarawa State), Mr. Usman Okposhi(Former Permanent Secretary, Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development), Hajiya Husseina Suleiman Nagogo(Chairman, Nasarawa Amazons FC), Barr. Tanimu Adabson( Former Attorney General and Commissioner For Justice, Nasarawa State), Madam Nneli Theresa, Haliru Ibrahim Zee(Retired Civil Servant, Nasarawa State), and Mrs. Jatau R. Anne(Ministry of Trade and Investment, Nasarawa State), while others are slated to be investitured during the inauguration of the State’s Chapter in the nearest future.

Some of the recipients who spoke to the media expressed delight for the honour done to them.

Mr. Usman Okposhi said, “My heart gladdens me. I am very ready to support this noble course whenever am called upon.

“I have been a club owner in Nasarawa State, and by this investiture, it’s more like a square peg in a square hole, I will give my all to its sustenance.”

Hajiya Husseina Suleiman Nagogo revealed that, “I appreciate this gesture done to me, even though I wasn’t  expecting it this special.

“This is re-confirming my contributions to sports. I love all sports, especially football which is my primary constituency, and this has further solidified my interest for sports, and I will do all I can to give my best to the Club.”

Highlights of the event saw the Supporters Club’s band performed unique celebratory dances, thrilling the dignitaries, participants and audience to esoteric rhythms, providing an atmosphere of conviviality and reverence to the Nigerian National Sport Teams.
