Niger Delta Sports Festival: Abegunde urges transparency in athletes’ selection

The Executive Director, Corporate Services at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, has called for a transparent and unbiased selection process for athletes representing Ondo State at the upcoming Niger Delta Sports Festival in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking while receiving members of the Ondo State Liaison Committee for the festival, Abegunde emphasized the importance of selecting the best talents based on merit to ensure fair representation and enhance the state’s chances of success.

He commended the efforts of the committee so far and expressed confidence in the state’s potential to excel at the festival.

“The selection process must be devoid of bias. Only the most qualified athletes should represent Ondo State so that we can compete effectively and make our mark at the festival,” Abegunde stated.

He also used the opportunity to highlight the NDDC’s commitment to youth development, noting that sports serve as a vital platform for empowering young talents in the region.

In response, the Chairman of the Ondo State Liaison Committee and acting Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Mrs. Tolulope Adeyemi, assured that the selection process would be transparent and fair. She reiterated the state’s determination to field a strong team capable of bringing home medals.

The Niger Delta Sports Festival, scheduled to hold from April 1 to 9, aims to showcase young talents from across the region, promoting unity and sports development.
