Elder statesman and Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, has expressed unshakable confidence in Nigeria’s potential for greatness, asserting that the nation is on the right track for a prosperous future.
Fasoranti, who marked his 99th birthday on Sunday, made the bold statement during a brief ceremony in his honour over the weekend in Akure, Ondo State.
In a statement signed by Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, the nonagenarian shared his belief that despite the setbacks and missed opportunities of the past, the current administration under President Bola Tinubu is steering the country towards real progress and prosperity.
“Hope is very much alive now that the country is on the path to progress and greatness,” Fasoranti affirmed, noting that President Tinubu’s administration, through its Renewed Hope Agenda, has sparked renewed national hope with its visionary policies.
Reflecting on the moment when President Tinubu first approached him with his presidential ambition, Fasoranti recalled offering prayers for his success.
“When Asiwaju Tinubu came to me to express his desire to run for the presidency of Nigeria, I prayed to the Almighty, and I got a nod that the prayer would be answered. We give glory to the Supreme Being for answering it,” he said.
The reverred Afenifere leader emphasised that Nigeria’s path to greatness is rooted not only in the current leadership but also in the nation’s rich resources, both human and natural as well as the resilience and creativity of its people.
“We are a blessed country with abundant talents and creativity. With determination and good governance, greatness is within reach,” he remarked.
Further, Fasoranti stressed the pivotal role of the Yoruba people in Africa’s future, urging them to continue their efforts to lead the continent towards its full potential.
“The Yoruba are increasingly becoming conscious of the historic role they are to play in the emancipation of the black race. We must remain focused. We are the beacon of Africa,” he asserted.
Chief Fasoranti, who turned 99 on May 11, 2025, continues to be one of Nigeria’s most respected figures, with his voice resonating strongly in national discourse.
