In a major breakthrough, the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, in collaboration with Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), has arrested a suspected member of the Boko Haram terrorist group in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The suspect, identified as Gambo Grema, also known as Gamboi, was apprehended in Mai-Hula town on January 26, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation.
This was disclosed in a statement signed and made available to The Hope Metro by Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade.
According to the statement, initial investigations revealed that Grema was part of a Boko Haram syndicate dispatched to Taraba State with plans to establish a terrorist foothold.
“The group aimed to fund their activities through kidnapping for ransom and to facilitate criminal operations in collaboration with members of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP), who were deployed from the notorious Timbuktu Triangle,” the statement read.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their professionalism and dedication. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to neutralizing threats posed by terrorist elements.
“This operation demonstrates our unwavering resolve to protect lives and ensure peace in Taraba State and its environs,” General Uwa said.
He also called on the public to support ongoing operations by providing timely and credible intelligence.
The arrest underscores the Nigerian Army’s continued efforts to disrupt terrorist activities in the region and ensure security across the country.
Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies in the fight against terrorism.
