Nigerians have been urged to check the rate at which they give birth in order to give room for a functional society.
The Chief Whip of Osun State House of Assembly Mr Lekan Olatunji disclosed this during a chat with Correspondents’ chapel in Osogbo.
He said if we desire to grow as a country, we must ensure that we check the rate of reproduction to maintain a stable population.
While stressing the need to develop the country to meet international standards, he said development is a gradual process as all stakeholders must embark on.
The lawmaker said the rate of crime in the country was worrisome.
“When someone is referred to as a good citizen, you will know the person came from a functional society and if otherwise, it shows that it is the replica of their environment.
“How can a family of seven living in a room apartment be responsive to the society and how can an over populated country cater for everyone.”
Olatunji urged the government and respective stakeholders to be proactive in ensuring a better society for everyone.
