As a way of complementing the efforts of Ondo State Government to bring succour to people affected by natural disasters, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) yesterday donated relief materials to the state.
The Director General of NIMASA, Dr Dakuku Peterside, while handing over the materials to the Deputy Governor of the state, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, in Akure said it was part of the agency’s corporate social responsibility to help.
Peterside, represented by the Director, Western Zonal Operations, Mr Olayemi Abass said the agency identified some states affected by disasters and with the help of the state government brought relief to the affected people.
He noted that every good organisation must have a corporate social responsibility towards its community.
The DG said natural disasters are not severe in Nigeria compared to other countries, but noted that the little happening must be given adequate attention.
Peterside said his organisation had been moving round the country and bringing relief to affected states to complement state government efforts.
“On behalf of the DG, I have been mandated to present this few token to the people and government of Ondo State, and the thrust of the presentation is that NIMASA being a corporate entity of the Federal Government has corporate social responsibility towards other stakeholders.
Later, the deputy governor, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Desola Alabi thanked NIMASA for its efforts at ameliorating the suffering of disaster victims.
Alabi said the state government had being trying its possible best in providing relief for victims of disaster in the state.
