NIPOST clamps down on unlicensed Courier, logistics operators in Akure

The Enforcement team of the Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department ((CLRD) NIPOST, has began its clampdown operations on unlicensed Courier, Express , Delivery, Dispatch and Logistics Operators in Akure, Ondo State. 

The action was carried out in compliance of the stipulated statutory provisions of section 43(1,2 and 3) NIPOST ACT, CAP 127,LFN 2004 and Regulatory Operational Guidelines 2020.

The Enforcement team which consists of officials of the Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD) NIPOST, was with armed mobile police officers and men of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID).

According to General Manager,

Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department(CLRD), NIPOST, ‘Dotun Shonde, the Clampdown became imperative, saying the Postal, Express, Courier and Logistics industry in Nigeria has been proliferated and infiltrated with so many unlicensed Courier and Logistics Operators with reckless abandonment for ethical standard and professional conduct.

“Also, there is an unethical sharp practices, such as price undercutting, pilfering, broaching, damages, loss and subletting of operating licences with mountain of public complains about customer’s being duped under false pretenses, lack of traceable office address and unregistered brand name.

“Moreso, there abound the issue of public safety and security threats, due to carriage of illicit drugs and prohibited items.

“Overloading and Carriage of items above Fifty kilograms which has created and increased public disdain towards this noble profession is worrisome. 

“These, have and constituted menace to the Postal industry and portrays negative image to Nigeria at large.

“It is now expedient for any interested private investors into the Portal, Express, Courier and Logistics business to follow the due process and obtain grant of Operating Licences from the Federal Government through Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) as stipulated by the extant laws or risk the full wrath of the law.

“Provision has been made for a flexible payment plan for the Operating Licences, no one or group of persons has an excuse for operating an illegal Courier and Logistics business”, he warned.
