By Jubril Bada
Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State, leaders of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) at both the national and Ondo State levels have held a meeting to evaluate the challenges facing the party and to find solutions to them.
The meeting, which was held behind closed doors in Akure, the Ondo State capital, followed the presentation of the Reconciliation Committee’s report by the Osun State chairman of the party, Dr Oluwatosin Odeyemi.
The report included requests from members at the local government level for the national body to provide more support to the party at the state and council levels.
Present at the meeting were the National Chairman of the party, Dr Ajuji Ahmed; the Chairman of Ondo State Contact and Mobilisation, Arch Yakubu Ibrahim; the Osun State Chairman of the party and Chairman of the Chairmen’s Forum of the party in Nigeria, Dr Oluwatosin Odeyemi; the Ondo State Chairman of the party, Pastor Peter Olagookun; along with state executives and other party stalwarts.
Addressing party members across the 18 local government areas of the state, the National Chairman, Dr Ahmed, said the meeting was organised to discuss and resolve the party’s challenges, which he noted were not limited to human resources and finances.
He explained that financial success comes with hard work and dedication, emphasising that success would not come unless members rededicate themselves and make sacrifices to improve the country for Nigerians.
According to him, “We are here to look for followership and leadership that are committed to sacrifice, hard work, and dedication in order to make our country a better place for ourselves and our children.”
He urged members to present their strategic challenges so that the party could advance to a higher level across the country.
Ahmed pointed out that the NNPP is focused on rescuing the country by providing good leadership, achieving economic development, and improving the lives of all citizens.
He emphasised that the party believes this can be achieved by prioritising education and human resources to drive economic advancement and generate momentum for infrastructure development across the country.
Earlier, the Chairman of Ondo State Contact and Mobilisation, Arch Ibrahim, called for unity among members to build a better nation.
He highlighted the strength of the NNPP in the country’s political landscape, recalling that in the 2023 general elections, the party won 18 House of Representatives seats and one governorship positions, a feat no other party had achieved in Nigeria’s political history.
He assured members that the party is preparing for the 2027 general elections with the aim of producing the next president.
Additionally, Dr Odeyemi, the Osun State Chairman and Chairman of the Chairmen’s Forum, stated that the NNPP is ready to produce the next governor of Ondo State, noting that the party has the capability to govern the state effectively.
