The Ondo State Government has assured that no government property will be abandoned in the state.
Special Adviser to the State Governor on Transport, Akogun Olugbenga Omole, stated this while leading the management and staff of the Agency on an inspection tour of the State Riders/Drivers Institute, Oba-Ile, and the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), Akure.
At the Riders/Drivers Institute, Omole assured that the place would receive adequate attention, saying no government property would be abandoned under the leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
He informed that the inspection is part of the ongoing activities of the Agency for Transport to visit all government public buildings under its jurisdiction for on-the-spot assessment.
He said what they found on the ground was not encouraging, noting it was quite understandable because it had been abandoned for quite some time.
“We have to change the narrative from now on. The infrastructure is massive. We will seek the Governor’s approval for this place to be renovated and brought back to life. We have almost everything here: the road signs, and training ground, among others.
“This place will return to full operation. We have the facilities to train newcomers in the business of riding motorcycles, tricycles, and vehicles. It will add value, productivity, and efficiency to transport workers, as well as increase revenue generation,” he stated.
At the VIO’s office, the Special Adviser noted that it is surprising to see a lot of uncollected riders’ licenses that have been paid for, calling on the owners to come and pick them up as no additional charges will be paid.
“It is illegal to ride without a license. Our officers will be on the road to ensure enforcement.”
According to him, the computerized vehicle inspection service is a very good innovation of the government whereby technology is deployed to ensure all vehicles plying the roads are in good condition to avert accidents.
Akogun Omole advised vehicle owners to periodically check their vehicles at the computerized vehicle inspection centre for safety, commending the management and staff for being proactive and urging them to do more.
Meanwhile, the Director of VIO, Mr. Alaba Adeleye, in an interview, explained that no fewer than eleven 11,000 uncollected riders’ licenses are in the office.
