Nonagenarian docked over criminal insubordination

A 70-year old man, Oloja Ganiyu Ali has been arraigned before an Odigbo Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged criminal insubordination.
The police arraigned the defendant before Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu on a count charge.
According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on May 24, 2024 at the High Court Registry, Ore holden at Ondo, Ondo State
The prosecutor, Inspector James Usifoh told the court that the defendant gave false testimony in an affidavit dated 24″ day of May, 2024 in Suit No: HOR/6/2024, when induced, bribed and influenced by the present Oba of Ajue to give false evidence against Igunshin community.
The offences contravened Sections 191 and 118 of the Criminal, Code Cap. 37, Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the count when the charge was read to him.
Usifoh prayed for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and gather his witnesses for trial.
The defence counsel, Mr O. Okesola did not oppose the application made by the prosecutor, but prayed the court to grant the defendant bail in most liberal term
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case till March 10, 2025 for hearing.
