Novelty match: NUJ beats Judiciary workers

Femi Atolagbe

More celebration for journalists in Ondo State as they comfortably defeated judicial workers in the state in a football novelty match.

In the match played as part of activities lined up to celebrate 2023 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ondo State Council, the pen pushers mercifully scored three goals, after magnanimously giving the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) an opportunity to score a goal in the first half.

Femi Atolagbe of Owena Press Limited scored a penalty kick for the pressmen shortly after trailing by a goal to nil before the first half ended.

As soon as the second half of the match began, the journalists showed they could do more than storytelling.

Saheed Ibrahim of Owena Press gave them the lead in the 53rd minute, through a header from a ball that ricochetted from the crossbar.

Ibrahim got another goal after JUSUN goalkeeper failed to contain a cross from Odunayo, to make it 3-1 for the pressmen.

The rest of the game was a show of skills by the journalists as JUSUN was unable to contain them.

The match ended 3-1 in favour of the fourth estate of the realm.
