NPFL 2024/25: Why defeating Abia Warriors a must – Sunshine Stars Coach
Sunshine Stars Technical Adviser, Kennedy Boboye says his side must grab the maximum points against Abia Warriors in a match-day three game of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to be a serious contender for the title.
The two-times NPFL winner stressed that Sunshine Stars must defeat Abia Warriors to show their readiness for the championship.
“Any team that want to win the league must maintain a good position on the log to show their readiness for the title and that is the more reason we must win tomorrow’s encounter against Abia Warriors.
“Since our game plan against Remo Stars did not work out, we will approach our match against Abia Warriors with more seriousness and ensure we come out victorious.
“We can’t say we want to win the league and be struggling in sixth or seventh position, we must always be among the first three on the table.
The ex-international told the team’s media team that the absence of Dozie Iwundu won’t have any effect on his side’s game plan, saying the team is blessed with the quality that can do same good job he does.
“We have good players that can easily step in for Iwundu, that is why we are here with solid 20 players that will give us the result,” he said.
Responding to Sunshine Stars’ situation of playing their home matches away from home, Boboye added: “I like to build my team beyond home matches, that is the reason you see us playing everywhere as if we are playing at home.
“The only difference between Ijebu-Ode and Akure is the home fans that are supposed to be physically present but if we play like we did against Bayelsa United, we will come out victorious against our Sunday’s opponents.”
Abia Warriors are two points adrift of Sunshine Stars after two matches.
