NPFL 25: 86 minutes Abba Sulaiman goal sinks Sunshine Stars in Port-Harcourt

Sunshine Stars FC of Ondo State narrowly loss 1-0 to Rivers United on match day 34 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium Port-Harcourt Rivers state.

The Owena Whales, displayed a spirited performance right from the first whistle, holding their own against the formidable Rivers United side.

With both teams creating scoring chances and battling intensely in midfield, the host leave it late until the 86th minute to break the deadlock.

Rivers United striker, Abba Sulaiman, found the back of the net late in the game, to secure the hard-fought victory for the Port Harcourt-based club.

Speaking after the match, Sunshine Stars Chief coach, Akinfolarin Bobola, commended his players’ effort and tenacity.

“It’s not the result we hoped for, but I’m proud of the fighting spirit my boys showed.

Coach Akinfolarin stated that despite the painful result,the team will keep pushing and won’t stop fighting until the season ends.

In his post-match reaction, Rivers United coach, Finidi George, acknowledged the resilience of Sunshine Stars, describing the victory as a morale booster for his team.

“Sunshine Stars gave us a real fight. They were disciplined and determined, and this win means a lot to us at this stage of the season to put pressure on other teams at the top.

Sunshine Stars will now shift their focus to their upcoming fixture against Katsina United as the 2024/2025 NPFL season continues to unfold.
