NPFL 25: Sunshine Stars set for second phase – Bala Abubakar

Sunshine Stars’ Technical Adviser, Bala Abubakar, has expressed the team’s readiness for the second phase of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) 2024/2025 season.
Abubakar reaffirmed his focus on maintaining intensity and commitment in every match, including the reverse fixture against Ikorodu City. Despite the challenges posed by the Lagos-based team, he remains determined to build a compact and formidable squad capable of reclaiming its place among the League’s top teams.
“We are working round the clock to ensure we start the second string of matches on a promising note, beginning with victory in our first match,” Abubakar stated.
Highlighting the difficulty of the match against Ikorodu City, who defeated Sunshine Stars 2-1 in the first leg, he added: “The reverse fixture will be tough. They are a strong side and are currently holding a comfortable position on the NPFL table. They’ll be here fighting for points, but we have prepared adequately and are confident of starting on a positive note. The team is stronger now and more formidable than ever.”
The former Kwara United coach emphasised the improvements made during the break. He revealed the inclusion of quality players to strengthen the squad and increase competition for places while addressing earlier struggles with converting chances.
“We have worked tirelessly to make Sunshine Stars highly competitive. The team has improved significantly in goal-scoring, as evidenced by our friendly matches. By tomorrow, supporters will start seeing a better, well-composed Sunshine Stars,” he said.
Abubakar acknowledged the team’s current position outside the relegation zone but stressed the need to push further up the table. His immediate target is securing a place among the League’s top 10 teams by the end of the season.
“With the support and prayers of our fans, we are confident the boys will make them proud,” he concluded.
