Katsina United FC scored late to secure a 1-0 victory over Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan.

The matchday 28 encounter, decided at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, was heading for a stalemate when substitute Ahmed Taofeek struck in the fifth of the seven additional minutes.

The hosts threw everything into the game but were well curtailed by the Oluyole Warriors’ defence.

After both sides battled to a goalless first half, there was more to play for in the second half, and it was the hosts who were more adventurous.

With goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal standing firm between the sticks, the 3SC backline put on a brave display to thwart the hosts’ efforts.

When it appeared the spoils would be shared, Katsina United netted a heartbreaking goal, courtesy of Ahmed Taofeek, whose shot took a slight deflection off Adelowo Gbolagade, beating Mustapha Lawal in the process.

Up next for the Ibadan soccer lords is another game on the road, as they travel to Uyo for a matchday 29 fixture against Akwa United next Sunday.
