NPFL: How Referee denied Sunshine Stars maximum points against Enugu Rangers

Fans and football enthusiasts at the venue of the matchday 13 of the abridged Nigeria Professional Football League between Sunshine Stars and Enugu Rangers were shocked with the decision of the central referee to have disallowed the home team winning goal.

Sunshine Stars FC wasted no time in settling for the game and in search of a goal which eventually arrived in the 15th minutes of the encounter decided at the Ondo State Sports complex,Akure.

Yusuf Ibrahim calmly converted to give the home fans something to celebrate the admiration of fans at the Stadium

Rangers International however got an equalizer 13 minutes after sunshine Stars opener to end the first half one all.

Play resumed in the second half with the home team mounting pressure to get a second goal which didn’t arrive early in the second half as both teams created not too clear chances .

Edith Agoye made substitutions to aid his attacking options in the 55th , 72nd and 77th minutes .

A winning goal however was scored in the 83rd minutes as Yusuf Ibrahim tapping home from close range after the ball slipped from rangers goalkeeper from a corner kick .

The center referee pointed to the center for a goal which led to immediate jubilation but shockingly the man with the whistle changed his mind in less than 30seconds disallowing the goal .

This singular decision by the center referee led to series of questions with spectators and stakeholders patiently waiting for the decision of the IMC.

Sunshine Stars players and officials were seen devastated fallen to ground when the center referee blew to signal the end of the match .

Some fans who spoke with newsmen after the match condemned the action of the match officials calling on authorities to sanction erring referees

“ They said: its sad this beautiful game ended this way, we believe the league has improved but obviously some referees are joy killers “

Sunshine Stars next match is away from home against Abia Warriors.
