NPFL matchday 20: Sunshine Stars share spoils at home

Kennedy Boboye yesterday marked his return to Sunshine Stars with a 1-1 draw against Kwara United in the matchday 20 of the Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL played at Ondo State Sports complex, Akure.

Sunshine Stars midfielder, Promise Awosanmi, fired the Akure Landlords ahead in the 28th minute after slotting home from Yusuf Ibrahim square pass.

The remainder of the first half recorded no further goal as the center referee signalled for break. 

The restart of the clash saw display of football artistry from both sides with the home side 

Solomon David drew level for Kwara United in the 73rd minute of the enthrailing encounter .

Both teams rued many goal scoring chances in the second half of the encounter.

Boboye was previously in charge of Akure outfit in 2015, leading them to a sixth place finish.

He returns to the Ondo State capital having managed at Abia Warriors, Plateau United, Remo Stars, Akwa United and Heartland since his first departure, winning the league with Plateau.

In a chat with newsmen,the former Akwa United said the result of the game was not what he bargained for, saying it’s all about football where you win, lose or draw.

Boboye was optimistic he could recoup the lost points, adding that the target of the team is to go and get points against Kano Pillars in the matchday 21.

He said: “Everybody fought for maximum points but our efforts were not enough to give us what we wanted.”
