NPFL Matchday six: Agoye lauds players resilience

Sunshine Stars Head Coach, Edith Agoye has commended the resilience of his players for their 2-1 victory over Abia Warriors.
He disclosed that they played against a team that defend so deeply, saying they didn’t leave any space in their side of the field and relied so much on counter attack and playing against such team could be difficult.
Agoye stated this after the Akure Landlords defeated Abia Warriors in the match day six of the Nigeria Premier League Football (NPFL) decided at the Ondo State Sports complex Akure.
According to him “the three points was very important to us, considering the fact that we went about three matches without winning not because we didn’t determined, put enough effort or that we didn’t work hard . Despite our determination and hard work, unfortunately the positive results failed to show.”
“We are happy today,that we are able to do everything tactically to get the maximum points”.
The former Shooting Stars gaffer said his side went down early in the game, disclosing that it’s very important for players for get back into the game which they did before the end of the first half.
He said: We knew if we couldn’t get back into the game early that the it will be difficult to do that in the second stanza, we got our strength and confidence immediately we got the equalizer that we are going to win the game”
“We push hard very well in the second half ,we made them to make mistakes which gave the resultant penalty that led to the winning goal.”
Sunshine Stars had earlier denied a clear penalty after the center referee already pointed to the spot in agreement with the line man, but the intervention of the fourth official changed the earlier decision.
Sunshine Stars will next trade tackles against Rivers United in Port Harcourt.
