NPFL MD 12: Awosanmi fires Sunshine Stars past Lobi Stars
Super Eagles invitee, Promise Awosanmi’s 48th-minute goal was all Sunshine Stars needed to defeat Lobi Stars in match day 12 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), played at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode.
The first half of the Clash of Stars ended goalless, with both sides ruing missed scoring opportunities.
Sunshine Stars’ technical changes made the difference just minutes into the restart of the game.
The wonder kid, Promise Awosanmi, wasted no time in putting the Owena Whales ahead with a well-placed free kick in the 48th minute.
The result moved Sunshine Stars from 13th to 11th position on the league table.
Sunshine Stars’ interim coach, Bobola Akinfolarin, commended the players for their spirited efforts to secure the three points.
According to him, “We thank God for the victory, and it was a collective effort by the entire coaching crew. All we need now is to prepare well ahead of our next away match against Enyimba in match day 13.”
Lobi Stars’ Technical Adviser and former Super Eagles captain, Daniel Amokachi, congratulated Sunshine Stars on their victory.
Amokachi expressed disappointment that his team’s beautiful display did not reflect in the outcome of the game.
“We played beautiful football, but we could not find the back of the net. Nevertheless, we’ll go back to the drawing board and make the necessary adjustments.”
Sunshine Stars are currently 11th in the league and will visit Aba next week to face Enyimba International FC.
