NPFL MD 17: Shooting Stars defeat Kano Pillars

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) continued their impressive run of form as they hammered Kano Pillars 2-0 in the Nigeria Premier Football League matchday 17 fixture at the Lekan Salami Stadium.

Buoyed by the heavy presence of their teeming supporters, who thronged the venue to cheer them to victory, the Oluyole Warriors scored a goal in each half to pick up the maximum points.

After missing what could have been the opener in the early minutes of the encounter, when Olaniyi Fasanmi saw his effort saved by goalkeeper Charles Tambe, 3SC endured some torturous moments from the visitors.

With the resistance of the defensive line consisting of Desmond Ojietefian, Ayodeji Bamidele, skipper Gali Falke, and Ikouwem Utin, complemented by Adebayo Abayomi, goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal enjoyed good coverage as the visitors swooped on their hosts.

Barely a minute before the end of the first half, the Oluyole Warriors broke the deadlock when in-form Akpan Joshua nodded in skipper Gali Falke’s cross to give the Stars a 1-0 lead at half-time.

Apparently not ready to disappoint their backers, the coach Gbenga Ogunbote-tutored lads seized the initiative from the youthful Pillars side.

Second-half substitute Mustapha Adams ensured victory was sealed when his delightfully struck free kick from outside the 18-yard box beat goalkeeper Tambe for the second goal, thus securing a third consecutive win and clean sheet for the Ibadan soccer lords.

With the win, the Oluyole Warriors have increased their points haul to 27 from 17 matches and will, next Sunday, face old rivals Rangers International at the Cathedral, Enugu, in a massive matchday 18 fixture.
