NPFL MD 25: Bendel Insurance keep hope alive with victory over Plateau United
Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin City, at the weekend, defeated Plateau United 2-1 in the matchday 15 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium .
Uche Collins gave Insurance FC a lead with a classy header in the 7th minute of the game after Julius Emiloju’s cross from the left flank.
In the 15th minute of the match, Bendel Insurance’s playmaker, Nnamdi Anthony mismanaged a supposed easy clearance inside the box and fouled his opponent, resulting in a penalty kick for Plateau Utd
Bendel Insurance survived the scare as the spot kick taken by Doyeni Olawale hit the woodwork.
The visitors’ efforts paid off in the 24th minute after Victor Dawa’s long-range strike was slightly deflected by Dennis Chigozie, beating Joshua Baba for an equalizer.
The timely equalizer put Bendel Insurance on their toes. All efforts to restore their lead, however, proved abortive before the half time whistle.
In the second half, Bendel Insurance dominated the game but could not convert their numerous chances until the 66th minute when Isaac Annor’s free-kick met a well-positioned Kayode Oke, who swiftly nodded it into the back of the net to give Insurance’s the winning goal.
Speaking during the post match interview, the Head Coach of Bendel Insurance, Greg Ikhenoba, said that his team would continue to work hard, noting that there is no weak opponents in the NPFL.
” I’m happy that our efforts yielded the results we desired. The battle continues. We will continue to work hard. There is no weak opponent in Nigeria league anymore. We will get better,” he said.
Coach Mbwas Mangnut of Plateau United said his team prepared well for the game with the conviction that they would get something from it but they unfortunately lost the three points.
“We approach every game with the mindset to win and we will continue to fight for better results next time,” he said.
