Sunshine Stars efforts to retain their stay in the Nigeria Elite League next season suffered a setback in a midweek encounter with Katsina United.
The Akure Landlords were held to a goalless draw by the visiting Katsina United in the match day 34 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) decided at the Ondo State Sports Complex.
The midweek result saw the Owena Whales slipped a place back into the dreaded zone with four games remaining.
The game did not see a flurry of chances, the hosts failed to punish the Changi Boys from openings in both halves of the encounter.
MOTM, Kolade Adeniji and Ifegwu Ojukwu asked all the questions, and despite a late push, the match-winning goal was elusive till the end.
Next for Sunshine Stars is an AITEO Cup quarterfinal meeting with Kano Pillars in Lokoja, Friday, before a league date with Nasarawa United on match day 35.
Meanwhile Jigawa Golden Stars have been alleged of fielding a suspended player in their week 34 winning over Rivers United on Wednesday.
NPFL followers were looking keenly to see what the organisers of the league, the League Management Company (LMC) would do about the action that is against the rules of the game.
According to the notification of suspension sent to the Chairman of Jigawa Golden Stars FC, Dutse, signed by Stanley Ike – Richard on behalf of the Chief Operation officer of the LMC.
