NPFL second phase: Sunshine Stars sign 16 players

Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure has bolstered its squad with 16 new signings ahead of the second phase of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. The club also promoted three players from its youth team to enhance squad depth.
The Owena Whales secured players from within and outside Nigeria to strengthen their chances of better performance.
Notable signings include Waheed Adebayo (Lobi Stars), Daniel Edeh (El Gouna, Egypt), Liman Ahmadu (Lobi Stars), Alao Dabani (Lobi Stars), Okeke Vincent (Bendel Insurance), Edafe Vincent (Remo Stars), and Ebuka Anaekwe (Kwara United).
Others include Chukwudi Esobe (Heartland), Sadiq AbduRazak (Niger Tornadoes), Buhari AbdulAfeez (Osun United), Amia Kenneth (Katsina United), Henry Elum (Shooting Stars), Uche Onwuasonaya (Shooting Stars), Ajibola Matthew (Lobi Stars), Tosin Akinyemi (Ekimogun), and Tunde Adesua (unattached).
The three youth team players promoted are Ariyo Ikulamberu, Christopher Richards, and Samuel Matthew.
Club president Bamidele Ologunloluwa stated that the reinforcements were necessary to address the team’s first-phase performance.
“We are delighted to welcome the new players into our fold. These players are household names both locally and internationally. We urge stakeholders to continue their support and prayers to help lift the team’s league position,” Ologunloluwa said.
Technical Adviser Abubakar Bala expressed optimism about the team’s prospects with the new signings, saying, “Our focus now is to build a team with intense competition in all departments.”
The club is hopeful that the blend of new talent and existing players will drive better results in the league.
