NPFL: Sunshine Stars defeat Dakada, qualify for Super six

Sunshine Stars Football Club yesterday defeated Dakkada FC 3-0 to qualify for the last Super six slot in group B of the Abridged Nigeria Premier Football League played at the Ondo State Sports complex, Akure.

Sunshine Stars waited till the last match day before grabbing the all important points and goals which placed them above Abia Warriors who were levelled on 27points .

The Akure Landlords edged Abia Warriors with goal superiority to finish the Abridged league on 3rd position with 27points, while Doma United ended were on 26 points.

Michael Olalusi gave the Akure Landlords the lead in the 9th minute from 23 yards free kick, moment later the goal scorer missed a chance to score a brace after he missed a spot kick.

Sunshine Stars’ midfielder, Achi Nnaemeka extended his side lead with a thunderous strike from 27 yards in the 26th minute.

Udom Ekerette headed home from cross to finish the job in the 83rd minute.

 In a chat with newsmen, Sunshine Stars Coach, Edith Agoye thanked his players and football fans in the state for their support.

Agoye said: ” The qualification for the Super six was not an easy journey for his side, thanked God for hitting the target of qualifying as one of the best three teams in group B.

He expressed optimism that Sunshine Stars will do well in the super six, slated for Lagos in the next few weeks.

Dakkada head coach,Danlami Umar said the match was not a bad game for his side, saying his team will go back to the drawing board and looked at how they will return the team to the elite league.

He said: “I’m not afraid of sack by the teams management, because it was not my fault that the team was relegated.”

Wikki Tourists and Dakkada have been confirmed relegated from group B, while Nasarawa United and El-Kanemi Warriors were also condemned to lower league in group A.
