NPFL: Super subs give Sunshine Stars maximum three points

Sunshine Stars FC of Akure got the maximum three points through a lone goal in the 90th minute by a super substitute, Sadeeq Yusuf with a powerful header from another substitute, Stephen Begbaji.
The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)decided under strict compliance with COVID -19 protocols decided at the Ondo State Sports Complex,Akure ended goaless in the first half.
The Akure Landlords made five substitutions in the second half with the home team best chance of the game in the 61st minute when home team’s forward, Chinedu Udechuckwu’s shot was deflected off target.
Also, in the 81st minute, Sunshine Stars’ had another shot went inches wide off target before the goal came from Sadeeq in the 90th minute.
Sunshine Stars Coach, Gbenga Ogunbote in a chat with Journalists, said he was happy it was “victory at last”.
Ogunbote said it would had been a disaster if his team did not get the maximum three points. He commended the resilience and courage of his players for pushing through till the end.
“It was a hard earned win, it would have been a disaster if we didn’t get the three points, it would have been a set back, I commend the resilience and the courage of my players.
“We have played five games in how many weeks? The same set of players, I know we are going to have a little challenge as regards fatigue, but thank God we got the three points,” he said.
Ogunbote also revealed that the team had to make use of what was on ground as transfer ban was also preventing the team from getting quality addition to the team.
“I urged the team’s management to do the needful in terms of settling all the barrier stopping us from registering our newly signed players, we are not going to be carried away with the victory,”he said.
His counterpart, Warri Wolves Coach, Paul Offor said his team came to Akure to win.
He said, we are not here to defend, we defended well and we also attacked very , we only lost concentration at the stroke of the end of the game and we paid for it, this can happen to any team.
We have put the defeat behind us, our focus is our next game.
