NPFL WK 19: Sunshine Stars hammer Ifeanyi Ubah

Sunshine Stars eased past FC Ifeanyi Ubah with emphatic two goals in the first half of the Week 19 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) decided at the Ondo State sports Complex Akure.

 Jide Fatokun opened goal scoring for the Akure Landlords in the 24th minute with a header from Wasiu Jimoh corner Kick.

Anthony Omaka doubled the lead six minutes later to head home his fifth goals of the season to make it second assist for Wasiu Jimoh .

Omaka failed to hit the target when drove into the area for what could have been his brace in the encounter.

Despite Sunshine Stars’ domination of both halves of the encounter, they could only utilized two of their numerous chances.

Speaking with Journalists during the post match interview Sunshine Stars Technical Adviser, commended his players, management, state government and the home fans for their support since the beginning of the season.

“We are able to get these three maximum points at stake through hard working and motivation from the government.”

He added that, “our target from the beginning of the season was to get 65points which is enough to guaranty us a continental ticket.”

“We are not underrating any team, all the teams in NPFL can spring a surprise at any time.”

FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s Coach, Uche Okagbue said his team conceded the two goals in the first half due to lack of concentration.

“Our lack of concentration and inexperience have cost us a lot this season, those guys are all new  players, they need time to jell together.”

“We are going to pay Sunshine back in their own coin in our next meeting,”he said.

This is the first time since 2015 that the Akure Landlords will end the first stanza of the league on top five.

Sunshine Stars next match will be away to Ifeanyi Ubah.
