The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and TANTITA Security Services, has uncovered a reservoir of illegally refined crude oil hidden in a forest at Obe-Akingboye, in the Ilaje Local Government area of the state.
According to a statement made available to The Hope, the discovery was made on March 23, 2025, at about 2:12 pm.
However, no arrests were made as the suspects had already fled the scene before security operatives arrived.
Speaking on the development, the Ondo State Commandant of the NSCDC, Oluyemi Ibiloye, issued a stern warning to individuals involved in the illegal oil trade.
He urged perpetrators to desist from such activities or face the full wrath of the law.
Ibiloye reiterated the commitment of the NSCDC and its partners to enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against oil theft and vandalism across the state.
He assured that the joint operation would continue until illegal activities in the oil sector are eradicated.
The commandant also emphasised the agency’s dedication to safeguarding critical national assets, particularly in the solid minerals and oil sectors, which he described as vital to Nigeria’s economic growth.
He warned that anyone caught engaging in illegal dealings in petroleum products would be prosecuted, adding that the ongoing operation is part of a broader effort to curb economic sabotage.
The NSCDC called on residents to provide useful information that could help identify and apprehend individuals involved in oil theft and other forms of vandalism in the state.
