The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDS), Ondo State Command said it has arrested four persons in connection with the vandalisation and tampering with critical national assets belonging to Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The suspects were apprehended at the construction site of the substation line bay extension at Akure North Local Government area of Ondo State.
The Corps State Commandant, Dr Hammed Abodunrin confirmed to The Hope Metro that the four suspects;, namely; Quzeem Oyedele, Ahmed Yunusa, Oriade Wasiu, Ogunmola Omotayo and Olulowo
Damilare were arrested at the line Bay in Akure North at the early hours of yesterday.
According to him, the four suspects brought a truck branded in Indomie noodles color to carry out the illegal operation.
Abodunrin said, “ The suspects had already dismantled the irons and about to whisk them away, when they were apprehended by our men who were on guard at the location in collaboration with operatives of Amotekun Corps.
“On January 31 this year, we arrested a driver with his conductor for removing an electricity mast that was ready for installation at the site ground. But the two ran away.
“They are currently being investigated and effort is ongoing to arrest the owner of the truck and all those involved in the illegal act.
“We shall leave no stone unturned in carrying out our constitutional mandate of protecting public facilities from criminals.
“We shall continue to work in synergy with other security agencies to ensure a crime-free environment in our area of supervision.”
The commandant, however, warned the public against vandalisation of public facilities, urging criminals to desist from engaging in the act.
He also urged residents of the state to cooperate with the corps by reporting suspicious movements within their environments for prompt security intervention.
“ I want to use this opportunity to warn that anyone caught vandalising public property will be decisively dealt with,” he said.
