The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has launched a new initiative aimed at enhancing school safety across the state.
The NSCDC in partnership with Galaxy Promotion, has kicked off a comprehensive training program for head teachers from all three Senatorial districts of Ondo.
The initiative focuses on equipping educators with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively manage school safety and respond to emergencies.
The first phase of the training saw about 300 head teachers from the Southern Senatorial District of Ondo State undergo intensive sessions.
Participants were introduced to the Safe School Initiative and educated on how to register schools on the Nigeria Safe School Response Coordinating Centre (NSSRCC) portal.
This online system is designed to streamline safety management protocols for schools across the country.
In addition to registration, the training covered several key topics critical to safeguarding students and school property.
Among the subjects discussed were emergency response management, intelligence gathering, and surveillance techniques that can be employed to monitor potential threats.
The program also addressed specific security concerns, such as preventing the kidnapping of students and minimizing the vandalism of school infrastructure.
The training is part of a broader effort by the NSCDC to empower school leaders with the tools to implement an early warning, early response system. This system aims to detect and address security threats before they escalate, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff members alike.
By focusing on both proactive measures and response strategies, the program is expected to foster a safer and more secure environment for learning in Ondo State.
This initiative represents a significant step forward in the state’s commitment to improving school safety and creating a peaceful atmosphere conducive to education.
The NSCDC’s efforts in Ondo are in line with its national mandate to protect critical infrastructure, including schools, and ensure that students across the country can learn without fear. With the continued training and cooperation of school leaders, the initiative is poised to strengthen school security measures and contribute to the overall safety of the community.
