Ondo State Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has promised to heroically welcome the state contingent back home at the end of the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) tagged “Edo 2020”.
The Deputy Governor stated this during his visit to the contingent at their University of Benin (UNIBEN), hostel as a means of motivating the athletes for better performances at the national sports fiesta.
Aiyedatiwa admonished the contingent to compete fairly at the national fiesta in order for them not to be disqualified, and ensure they play according to the rules of the games.
“I’m sure they will be a good ambassador of the state”.
He reiterated his warning against involving in any banned enhancement substance, adding that the government has the confidence in them that they will do the state proud.
“I can assure you that the state contingent will shock others as the games progress, seeing their Deputy Governor in their midst was a morale booster for them, we will be waiting for you to bring medals home”
He added that, “I brought warm greetings from the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to the athletes, they were in high spirit to haul medals for the state, we will continue to motivate them to give us the best.
He charged the host state to host fairly without overbearing influence on the judges and the referees, they should also compete within the rules of the games.
Responding, the General Manager of the Sports Council, Mr Henry Omoyele Babatunde thanked the deputy governor for the visit, saying the morale of the athletes were high with his visit.
“With His Excellency’s visit, the state contingent will put in their best to do the state proud.
“Omoyele said no governor has ever visited us like this in the past.”
