NSF: Ondo on medals’ log with two bronze

The duo of kafayat Azeez and Cecilia James have won medals for team Ondo at the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged Edo 2020.
Kafayat Azeez recorded the first bronze medal for Ondo Contingent after she defeated Anambra Judoka in 57kg female category.
Cecilia James made the second bronze medal for the state after she was controversially robbed in the semifinal.
There was a mild protest before she was allowed to compete for the bronze which she later won by defeating her rival, Chizoma Ogbonna from Imo State in the 70kg category.
“Out target was to win Gold, but God knows best, we are optimistic that other athletes would win gold for the state, the games are just starting, we will keep pushing to do the state proud.”
Meanwhile, Ondo State Abayomi Akarakiri has qualified for Semifinal in the -67kg Kickboxing.
He made it to the semifinal having kicked out Chino Okereke from Kano State in Grand style.
In boxing, two Ondo State boxers were through to the Quarterfinals having knocked their opponents out in their first bout.
The General Manager of the state sports council, Mr Henry Omoyele Babatunde urged,the athletes to remain calm saying medals will come at the appropriate time.
“We have our area of comparative advantages, we should just be focused and committed to why we are here”.
He appealed to athletes and their officials to be more discipline, adding that they should not have any confrontation with the presiding judges.
“Let us obey the rules and regulations guiding the games.”
