NSF: Ondo Weightlifting ‘ll surpass Eko 2012 feat – Coach Mathias

Ahead of the forthcoming National Sports Festival (NSF), slated for Edo State later in the month, the Ondo State Weightlifting Coach, Sunday Mathias has assured the sports loving people of the state that his team will surpass the feat recorded during the 2012 National Sports Festival in Lagos state.

Coach Mathias stated this during a trial organised for his team as part of their preparation towards the National Sports Fiesta at Ondo State Sports Complex, in Akure the state capital.

He told Sporting Hope that his team won three gold medals for the state the in 2012 NSF in Lagos state, saying they embarked on the trial to asses their performance and know the area to improve before the competition.

He revealed that they were unable to achieve much six years after at Abuja 2018, due to some circumstances beyond their control.

“Thank God that Abuja 2018 belong to the past , we are more focused on the future to ensure we take our rightful place in Weightlifting among the comity of states.”

The Sydney 2000 Olympic Weightlifter added “that with the motivation from the State government and arrangement being put in place by the management of the sports council coupled with the enthusiasm in training I can see the green light  that we will excel in Edo State in all ramification.

 Coach Sunday Mathias is one the three Weightlifters that represented Africa countries of Nigeria, Egypt and Tunisia at the Sydney 2000 Olympic in Australia where he was rated 15th in the World .
