Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Ondo State chapter, Mr Jacob Adebo, has enjoined the people of the state to vote massively for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari to enable him continue to transform every sector of the country.
Adebo who is popularly known as “Idajo”, gave the admonition at a programme where the state chapter of the union distributed rice to 3000 people at the NURTW headquarters in Akure.
The NURTW boss also used the occasion to appeal to the people of the state to reciprocate Akeredolu’s good governance by voting for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections so as to continue enjoying the dividends of democracy.
“Akeredolu has surpassed our expectations in less than two years in office through his numerous developmental and people-oriented projects visible in all the 18 local government areas.
“When he came on board, he promised that he would not owe salaries and that, he has been able to fulfill, not only that, he has almost completed payment of those owed by the immediate past administration.
“The state is witnessing first-of-its kind infrastructural development. The Akeredolu-led administration is determined to constructing new roads as well as rehabilitating deplorable ones. Our schools too have been rehabilitated with conducive environment that would make learning attractive”, he said.
Speaking on the Christmas gift, he explained that the gesture was to assist the state government to alleviate poverty and also to put smiles on the faces of the people this festive season.
He said the event was also ongoing in every zone in the state, and urged the people to return President Muhammadu Buhari for second term.
He further expressed gratitude to Governor Akeredolu for the reigning peace in the state which had enabled businesses to thrive.
He enjoined his members and the good people of the state to continue to be law-abiding and maintain peace at all times, saying development can only be made possible in a peaceful atmosphere.
Responding, some of the beneficiaries, Mrs Omowunmi Oshodi, Adegbola Ojo and Mrs Taiwo Adeola who described the gesture as first of its kind by the Union, thanked the Adebo-led Union for deeming it fit to alleviate people’s plight.
“Though, it may not be much, but the truth remains that not all of us can afford it. We believe that these is very timely as Christmas is few days away. So we are very proud of his initiative and we thank the union for this”, they said.
