Alhaji Baruwa who commended the Ondo State government for their timely intervention and pleaded for a review of its decisions relating to the operations of the NURTW in the state further assured the good people of the state that members would ensure improved service delivery and good conduct in their activities.
Ondo State Government had last Tuesday announced the indefinite suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state.
The development followed the bloody clash between two factions within the NURTW in Akure, the Ondo state capital, where one person was gunned down by hoodlums suspected to be supporters of the NURTW state chairman, Jacob Adebo, popularly called Idajo.
The factional members of the NURTW who besieged the Governor’s Office to protest the killing of ‘Shina’ carried various placards with different inscriptions such as, “Idajo must go”, ” “No more Idajo”, “Idajo, stop killing us”,
“Let us allow peace to reign”, among several others.
The protesters alleged that idajo led some of his supporters at Old Garage and shot at other members of the NURTW killing one of them on the spot.
Reacting to the bloody clash, Ondo state Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, ordered immediate suspension of all activities of the union in all motor parks across the state and charged commercial drivers to purchase only government ticket from the designated officers.
He charged the protesters to remain calm and peaceful as they go about their normal lawful activities.
The governor who spoke through his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, said all activities of the union have been suspended until further notice.
