NWFL championship: Commissioner charges Sunshine Queens on elite league’s return as team depart Akure

As Sunshine Queens Football Club of Akure departing for 2023 Nigeria Women Football League Championship scheduled for Ogun State today, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Ondo State, Bamidele Ologunloluwa has charged the team to ensure they win the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) return ticket.

Ologunloluwa urged the players to take the championship serious by approaching every match like final, saying it was unfortunate that we are on relegation, but this is a great opportunity for us to return to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).

Ologunloluwa stated this while bidding the players and their coaches farewell ahead of the much important competition kick off on Saturday this week.

The Championship will be played in Shagamu and Remo Stadiums in Ikenne, Ogun State where twelve teams will be competing for the available two promotion tickets to Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).

The 12 teams includes; Sunshine Queens, Dannaz FC, Delta Babes, Dream Stars Ladies, Ekiti Queens, Imo Strikers,Honey Badgers, Kwara Ladies, Lakeside Queens, Moje Queens, Pelican Stars , Prince Kazeem Eletu FC.

He added that it’s pertinent for Sunshine Queens to return to the Elite League next season by play well and win all their matches.

The commissioner promised the team a sum of N200, 000 every match they win with extra N50,000 for the first goal scorer in the team.

He added that the management has put everything in place to ensure the team return to the elite league, saying the future of the team lies in the hands of players to lift it up.

He said: “You must all go out there to play your heart out, there is not room for loss, draw is not even accepted, go all out and win all your matches.”

“Your opponents are not better than you, it’s a game of same numbers, you must not give room for mistakes, you are all champions and you must prove it by returning the team to the elite league.”

“I challenge you all to go to Ogun State and make your fans happy and also make your coaches happy, if you like your coaches win for them.”

“I have no doubt in my mind that you will make us proud, put in your best and win one of the needed promotion tickets.”
