NWFL Matchday 11: Edo Queens defeat Sunshine Queens

Goals from the duo of Ireti Eretan and Shola Oduwale were not enough to lift Sunshine Queens past Edo Queens in the matchday 11 of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) as the Akure Landladies played 4-2 against Obaseki babes at Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin City.
It was an outstanding performance for Sunshine Queens Goalkeeper, Precious Aaron had beautiful saves in the NWFL cagey encounter, despite her side’s lost to Edo Queens.
Aaron denied Edo Queens many scoring chances with her sterling performances.
Suliat Abideen had put Edo Queens ahead in the 38th minute from a quick corner played, before Goodness Osigwe made it two for the host three minutes later in the entertaining encounter .
The visitors efforts to half the deficit before the break were not successful as the center referee signalled end of the first half of the pulsating encounter.
The resilience Sunshine Queens failed to give up despite trailing their hosts by two goals down in the second half with their attacking football.
The visitors tactics paid off when Ireti Eretan raced to tap in from former Edo Queens player, Precious Edewor’s rebound strike in the 48th minute to reduce the deficit.
The hosts later restored their lead in three minutes later through Goodness Osigwe before Godwin Eunice made it four for the Betsy Obaseki babes in the 55 minutes.
Sunshine Queens Coach, Oladimeji Abimbola introduced Nwamaka Augusta, Aluba Ogba in place of Ajibade Taiwo and Akintunde Ololade in the 61 minutes respectively, while Suliyat Ajibade had earlier replaced Ezeani Eunice to solidify the team in the midfield. Ireti Eretan also made way for Bunmi Adenuga.
Moment later, rugged and power jumping attacker, Shola Oduwale half the deficit for Sunshine Queens having placed the opposing goalkeeper from right to left corner of the pole from versatile striker, Precious Edewor assist in the 67 minutes.
No further goals were recorded in the remaining minutes of the encounter as the host coasted home with the maximum points.
