Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Dotun Owanikin has expressed satisfaction with the Sunshine Queens 2-0 victory over Confluence Queens in their week two encounter in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).
Owanikin revealed that the team was assembled a week to the league.
“This is a team we just nurtured for a week and half, to me this is a very good start for the team,” he said.
He added “that the team won on individual performance which I had already discussed with the technical crew, I believe the team’s performance would improve subsequently as they play together.”
The match played at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure saw Sunshine Stars Midfielder, Seun Fakunle put the home team ahead in the 8th minute with his second goal of the season.
The first half ended with 1-0 with little or no chances being created by both teams to improve the score line.
Second half had barely started when Sunshine Queens Skipper increased his team’s lead to make it 2-0 in the 59th.
Sunshine Stars Midfielder, Seun Fakunle in an interview with Journalists said the game was not easy, especially having scored two goals; we are just getting along with the game after long break due to Coronavirus.
The Head Coach of Confluence Queens, Sabo Okala said he believed his team would be at the top of the first stanza of the league because, saying, “I have players who can give me what we want.”
Sunshine Queens now have three points and will be away at Delta Queens from the match day three of the NWPL.
