Sunshine Queens Coach , Tayo Onilude has said the team will go back to the drawing board to learn and correct some mistakes observed against visiting Bayelsa Queens.
She stated this after her team’s spirited second half display failed to undo the first half capitulation to Bayelsa United in a match day one encounter of NWFL played at the Ondo State sports complex, Akure.
“The players approached the match in the first half as if they are not ready for the business of the day, but during the break we spoke to them, we rebuilt their confidence.
“The team is new, we just bring them together. Nevertheless, we will go back to the drawing board to learn and correct our mistakes. There will be a great improvement in our subsequent matches,” she said.
Bayelsa Queens Technical Adviser, Moses Adukwu conceded that Sunshine Queens were not pushovers.
“The league just started, we get our chances and we took them. Despite defeating them, I must confess that both sides played well. They are not pushovers; they are a strong side.
“They just need to go back to the drawing board to work on areas they feltare lacking.
“We never thought the league was going to start but here we are. It’s not a knock out competition. So no team should be underrated,” he concluded.
The Betty Babes could not curtail the firepower of the visitors in the first half, going down to Sunday Juliet’s strike inside opening three minutes.
Ikea Ginika could have drew level in the 23rd minute from a free kick but Bayelsa Queens’ goalkeeper was well positioned to save the kick.
However, gangling forward, Anjor Mary’s brace just before the break practically put Wednesday’s contest to bed.
Sunshine Queens rued many goal chances in both half of the league opener.
The team came out stronger in the second half of the encounter with some technical changes from the coaching crew and they were able to match the opponent in the period, but a goal remained elusive.
