In a bid to increase food production and sustainability, Nigerian youths have called on the Ondo state government to make its agricultural programmes friendly for youths.
The Ondo State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Mr Adewale Ogunmolawa made the appeal in an interview with The Hope in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
Ogunmolawa stated that government usually involves the youths in agricultural trainings and seminar but are not shortlisted to benefit when the programmes are being implemented.
“We are not encouraged because we have not got any meaningful partnership with government but are invited for trainings and seminars after which we would be given N2,000 for transportation .
” Their programmes are not beneficiary to the youths, most of it is in paper. Those assisted are not our youths, they are political youths but our youths are gathered for showcasing their programmes.
When it’s time for the implementation, unknown youths who never participated in any training or seminar are invited, not minding if they have plot of land where they practice agriculture or not,” he lamented.
We will appreciate if this is looked into so that the real youths practicing farming can be captured for this year’s programme.
