NYG: Ologbosere, Oyedepo win best players

Timilehin Ologbosere and Damilola Oyedepo, both from Ondo State dominated Badminton medals table at the just concluded 5th National Youth Games, in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Ologbosere, emerged the best player of the Badminton game defeated the defending champion enrout final, won Gold medal the boys single  and silver alongside Ayomide Aina  in boys double .

While Damilola Oyedepo won Gold in girls single. Before Ologbosere withdrew from mixed double due to groan injury and settle for broonze alongside Ayomide Salawat.

Meanwhile the trio of Ologbosere, Damilola and Aina  and a para table tennis player, Damilola Oluwole a silver medalist also won the best player had been invited to national camp for their exception displayed at the games.

While speaking to the Sporting Hope, Ologbosere thanked God, his coaches, team mates and the state government for the feat.

The Aquinas College, Akure student revealed that his dream is to become a world champion, adding that the secret of his achievement was consistence  training and drilling from his coach.

“This is just the beginning for me , I will go home to fortify myself ahead the challenges ahead, I was told by the national coach that I have been promoted to under -19 which I welcome in good fate, I will resume training after my injury myth have been healed to continue do the state proud.”

Oyedepo Damilola said, “she was elated to win in her first outing, I will continue to strive hard to do the state and the country proud.

I will train hard to shine at the National level; she promised a better outing whenever the opportunity presented itself.

The elated Ondo State Badminton coach, Tunmise Olalehin said the feat recorded was as a result of hard working, early preparation and motivation from the Board of Ondo state Badminton Association.

“I thank the Management of the Sports council and the state government for giving me the opportunity to impact  the skills into the young lads.”

Tunmise added that preparation will commence early for the National Sports Festival scheduled to be held I Edo State 2020.

Ondo state occupied 7th position on the medals table with 8 Gold, 9 Silver and 10Bronze at the 5th National Youth Games from the 3rd position they made in 2017 with 12 Gold ,12 Silver and 12 Bronze.

While reacting the General Manager of the Sports Council, Mr Wande Fabuluje commended the State contingent for their performances at the NYG.

He said this year’s result will spur the state to work harder in subsequent competition adding that the little different may be connected to the states’ inability to participate in the last edition.

As we all know, competition is the best training for athletes, he assured that the state will have a better outing at the incoming National Sports Festival.

Meanwhile Delta state won the National Youth Games with 41 gold ,32 Silver and 31 Bronze making total of  104 medal  second position goes to Lagos state  with 22 gold, 36 Silver and 13 Bronze, Bayelsa Akwa Ibom ,Edo, Ogun  occupied 3rd ,4th, 5th and 6th position with 72, 45, 41, 32 respectively.

While Kebbi and Adamawa were nowhere to be found on the medals table.
