NYSC sanctions 25 Corps Members in Ekiti

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sanctioned 25 corps members in Ekiti for violating the rules of the scheme.
Eight out of the Corps members who are Batch A 2019 set, have their service year extended between three and six months while others were also punished in different ways based on the gravity of their offences.
The NYSC State coordinator in the state, Mrs Emmanuella Okpongete, made the disclosure on Thursday, during the Passing Out Parade (POP) ceremony, held in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti state.
The Ekiti NYSC helmsman said the disciplinary measures was aimed towards checking the menace of what she called derelection among the corps members.
The State Coordinator said, “25 corps members of the 2019 Batch A are under disciplinary measures, eight are to repeat the service year, while others will be given the appropriate punishment for absconding during the service year.
” As part of the activities of the scheme, five other corps members have been honoured for their outstanding performance in Community Development Services ” she stated.
Okpongete while congratulating the out gone corps members for successful completion of their service year, disclosed that they have contributed to the growth of Ekiti in the areas of health, agriculture, education, socio- economic and infrastructural development.
Earlier, the governor of the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Michael Awopetu appealed to the corps members to make effective utilization of the skills they acquired during the service year, saying the move would make them become employers of labour rather than job seekers.
The Governor pledged that his administration would continue to create employment opportunities for the teaming youths and as well reward the outstanding ones among the corps members.
