From Kayode Olabanji, Okitipupa
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval to Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, to run about seven other additional programmes.
The programmes from 2024/2025 session are; Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Economics, Public Administration, Public Health and Medical Laboratory Science.
The information was contained in a statement directed to OAUSTECH’s Vice-Chancellor, and signed by NUC’s Acting Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Abubakar M. Gerei, on behalf of the commission’s Acting Executive Secretary, Dr. Chris J. Maiyaki.
According to the statement; “The Vice-Chancellor is please invited to recall that a resource verification visit was carried out by panels of experts to some proposed academic programmes in Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Ondo State with a view to assessing the human and material resources available for their establishment,” the approval indicated.
“I am directed to inform the Vice-Chancellor that the Ag. Executive Secretary has considered and approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the following programmes to be run in the Main Campus of the University with effect from 2024/2025 academic session,” Gerei stated in the NUC letter.
The newly approved programmes include B.Eng. Chemical Engineering, B.Eng. Petroleum and Gas Engineering within the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology; BSc Economics and BSc Public Administration in the School of Management Sciences; as well as B. Medical Laboratory Science (B. MLS) and BSc Public Health in the School of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences.
The approval from NUC to launch these new courses is the culmination of a resource verification evaluation conducted by the regulatory body in July to confirm the institution’s preparedness to introduce the proposed programmes.
Addressing the results of the verification assessment, the Vice-Chancellor of OAUSTECH, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, expressed his appreciation to the Divine Providence for guiding his efforts in elevating OAUSTECH to greater echelons.
He encouraged prospective students to consider OAUSTECH as their primary choice of educational institution in their quest for top-tier education in Nigeria.
