By Kayode Olabanji, Okitipupa

The Vice-Chancellor of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, has emphasised the institution’s unique location as a strategic advantage for achieving excellence in the Blue Economy.

Speaking at the SIWES directors and coordinators meeting held on Thursday, Prof. Ologunorisa noted that OAUSTECH’s proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and major shipping routes positions it favourably for marine research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

“OAUSTECH is ideally placed to harness the vast potential of the Blue Economy, driving sustainable development and economic growth in Ondo State and beyond,” he stated.

He identified key drivers of Blue Economy excellence, including the NUC-approved programmes in Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and other disciplines, along with the proposed Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, which will foster collaborative research, policy development, and innovation.

The professor of climate science highlighted the benefits of OAUSTECH’s location, such as access to rich natural resources for research and development, proximity to major local industries—facilitating partnerships and knowledge transfer—and opportunities for cultural exchange and international collaboration.

He reaffirmed OAUSTECH’s commitment to investing in infrastructure, faculty development, and research initiatives to drive innovation and entrepreneurship.

Alhaji Sule Rauf, Area Manager of the Industrial Training Fund, Akure Area Office, emphasised the importance of collaboration between institutions for the success of the SIWES programme.

Dr. Ajoke Gbadamosi, OAUSTECH SIWES coordinator, encouraged colleagues to exchange ideas, address challenges, and explore innovative approaches to improving SIWES implementation.

With its strategic location and focus on Blue Economy excellence, OAUSTECH is poised to become a leading institution in Nigeria’s coastal region.
