The Vice-Chancellor of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa, has said the University will produce the needed manpower with skills to drive Ondo Deep Seaport.
Ologunorisa disclosed in a chat with our correspondent in his office, saying he envisioned a university that is first among equals and most preferred and making significant contributions to society.
While commending Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, on his resilience in ensuring that the federal government approved the establishment of a deep seaport in Ondo, he said OAUSTECH had been working in line with the governor’s dream to contribute to the development of the Blue Economy of Ondo State and Nigeria.
“On assuming duty on 23 February last year, I had set in motion machinery for establishing the School of Maritime Transport and Logistics to run B.Sc Nautical Science, B.Sc Port Management and Finance, B.Sc Shipping, and Logistics, B.Sc Port Security and Marine Engineering to train the critical manpower, which is in short supply across the globe, needed to power the Blue Economy to uplift Ondo State and Nigeria,” he revealed.
He stated that currently, the Maritime Academy being built for the University by the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Commission (OSOPADEC) is near completion at Ugbo Nla, Ilaje Local Government, adding that it would admit students into programs in October this year.
He reiterated that the University is already in partnership with the leading global maritime institution, Caribbean Maritime University, Kingston, Jamaica, to deliver world-class maritime education to students who enroll in the program.
Ologunorisa also revealed that OAUSTECH would run a short-term programme that would lead to the award of certificates and diplomas in ICT, Management and other related courses.
He promised to collaborate with various stakeholders in the institution’s catchment area to ensure that many young people have access to quality education.
