The new ultra-modern General Hospital, Ifon has been named after the late monarch of the town, Oba Israel Adeusi, so as to immortalise him for his immense contributions to the successful realization of the project.
Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu made the assertion in his address at the official handing over of the 100-bed Oba Israel Adeusi General, Mother and Child Hospital to the State Hospitals Management Board(HMB) through the Ministry of Health.
The Governor who was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Pharmacist (Mrs.) Folukemi Aladenola noted that Oba Adeusi was one of the major stakeholders that facilitated the location of the hospital in Ifon, saying the late monarch worked for the project, got it but departed before its use.
He averred that the building of the hospital was informed by the incidents of infant maternal mortality during child birth which prompted the state government’s collaboration with the Federal Government.
According to him, the collaboration through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) facilitated the location and execution of the ultra-modern multi-million project in Ifon.
Akeredolu said the hospital was designed to ensure that the vital process of procreation will no longer be a death sentence to women and infants in Ifon and its adjoining towns.
He added that the hospital was equally constructed to actualize Goal 3 of the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) which is good health.
“It is pertinent to state that all forms of modern medical equipment of world class standard which can be found in the western world are ready for use in this facility.
“Having concluded all arrangements including staffing, budgetary provisions and other necessary administrative frameworks to enhance effective and efficient health care service delivery, we are set to put the facility into maximum utilization.
“It is our avowed commitment from inception to turn Ondo State to a cynosure of all eyes.”
While congratulating the people of the host community, Ifon, as the immediate beneficiary of the project, the governor appreciated them for their unflinching support towards the success of the project.
He charged residents of the town to come up with a very strong sense of ownership of the project and get disensitised from the usual general conservative perception that public projects and properties belong to government, which makes a lot of people feel unconcerned about their protection and maintenance.
Earlier in his welcome address,Special Adviser to the Governor on Public and Intergovernmental Relations, Mrs.Olubunmi Ademosu noted that the magnificent health facility is a fulfilment of one of the electoral promises of Governor Akeredolu for the people of Ondo State.
Mrs. Ademosu who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment Programmes, Barr.Felix Alonge condoled with the people of Ifon over the demise of their monarch who he said contributed immensely to the realization of the hospital project.
The Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board(HMB),Dr. Niran Ikuomola stated that the board will ensure that the facility provides qualitative health care services to the people of Ifon and its adjoining towns.
