Obasa denies allegations of arms cache discovery in Lagos Assembly

Impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has dismissed allegations of a purported discovery of stockpile of arms and ammunition within the Lagos State Speaker’s office, describing it as a politically motivated set up aimed at tarnishing his image.
Obasa, in a strongly worded statement, described the report as “a complete concoction” orchestrated by his “traducers” to discredit him.
He questioned the timing of the discovery, emphasizing that his office had already been forcefully taken over and ransacked following his removal.
The dismissal followed reports that security operatives uncovered a stockpile of arms and ammunition within the Speaker’s office space.
According to sources within the Assembly, security operatives stationed at the complex made the discovery during a routine sweep of the premises.
The cache reportedly included 47 pump-action rifles and live cartridges, all neatly stored within the Speaker’s office.
Insiders further revealed that photographic evidence of the arms, as well as DSS operatives taking stock of them, has surfaced, adding weight to the alarming discovery. However, the circumstances surrounding how such a significant cache of weapons found its way into the Speaker’s office remained unclear.
The development came amid a lingering leadership crisis within the Assembly, following the controversial removal of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
His successor, Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, has faced pushback from Obasa’s loyalists, who have challenged her authority.
Reacting to the development, sources close to the embattled former Speaker dismissed the allegations as a politically motivated set up aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
Obasa further alleged that Hon. Meranda, upon assuming office, had conducted spiritual cleansing in the office, raising doubts about how such weapons could have remained hidden until now.
He also pointed to past attempts to defame him, citing false allegations, including an alleged N16 billion gate construction and the purchase of a Toyota Hilux truck for N40 billion.
The DSS is yet to release an official statement on the matter, but sources indicated that investigation is underway to determine the source of the weapons, how they got into the Assembly complex, and who is responsible for their presence.
As the situation unfolds, political observers are keenly watching to see whether this latest development will further escalate tension within the Lagos State House of Assembly or a turning point in the ongoing crisis.
