Octogenarian docked over threat to life

An 80-year-old man , Isaac Olufemi Akinfesola, has been dragged before the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town, for allegedly threatening the life of one Isaiah Taye with cutlass.

The police brought Akinfesola before the court  for  also forcibly entering into Junaid cocoa family farmland.

The defendant, who is now facing two-count bothering on  forcibly entry and threat to life, however,  pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The defendant was said to have committed the offence on  April 27 ,2019 at about 10:00m at Ajegunle village via Ondo, contrary to and punishable under section 81 and 86 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vokume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The charge sheet read in part,”That you, Isaac Olufemi Akinfesola on April 27, 2019, at about 10:00am at Ajegunle village via Ondo in the Ondo Magisterial District did forcibly enter into Junaid cocoa family farmland and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 81 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 volume 1 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The police prosecutor,  Mr Abiodun Adebiyi, who told the court that he would  call five prosecution witnesses during the hearing, applied for a date to enable him study the case file.

Counsel to the defendant, Desmond Adedumola, applied for his bail in most liberal terms.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr Damilola Sekoni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties  in like sum.

He said the sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction, while they must show evidence of payment of tax for the current year.

He adjourned the case till August 26, 2019 for trial.
