By Sade Adewale, Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has said that the aged mother, identified as Iya Biodun, who was allegedly set ablaze by her daughter, is dead.

The 86-year-old woman was alleged to have been set ablaze by her daughter, Abiodun, in Surulere, opposite the Anglican Cathedral Church in the Ondo West local government area of the State on Friday.

The Hope Metro earlier reported that the suspect, Abiodun, allegedly committed the act around 5 a.m. while the victim was asleep.

The suspect said, “I called my mother out of the house around 5 a.m. and set her ablaze because of what I heard, that she’s behind my problems.”

A source said that when the suspect was interrogated, she claimed her mother was behind her predicament and that the only way to come out of it was to kill her.

Reports said that the aged mother lost her life at the Trauma Centre, Ondo, where she was rushed for treatment.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident.

She said, “It was the DPO of the station who broke the news to me when I called to confirm the case.”

Odunlami said the suspect, Abiodun, will be charged to court as soon as possible.
