ODFL second edition : Ashysam FC     emerges champion

Ashysam FC of Okitipupa has defeated Raw Gold FC to emerge winner of the second edition of Ondo State Football League decided at the state sports complex, Akure, the state capital.

The grassroots football competition, had over 60 teams participated in the preliminaries across the state, with two teams qualified from Ondo South and Northern Senatorial districts while four made it in the central senatorial district.

Raw Gold, Ijapo Ages Stars FC, Elite FC,Royal Goldwin Sports Academy, represent central,while KB FC Ikare ,Real Ifon and KFC Okitipupa Ashysam FC represent Ondo North and South senatorial Districts.

The first match of the day saw Ijapo Ages Stars FC lock horns with Elite FC in the third-place, which ended 2-2 in the regulation time and later won by the Ijapo Ages Stars FC 5-4 in a penalty shootout.

The final match between Raw Gold Soccer Academy and Ashysam FC also ended in a 1-1 draw in the regulation time before Ashysam won 5-4 on penalties to emerge winners of the competition.

The chairman of Ondo State Football Association, Otunba Dele Ajayi, in a chat with newsmen after the tournament, congratulated the winner of the competition for being steadfast winning the competition.

Ajayi appreciated the sponsor of the competition,  for believing in the state FA’s capacity to deliver a good tournament at the grassroots .

He said: “We thank God for the successful completion of this year’s competition, sponsored by Bet9ja, we want to thank the clubs, without clubs, we can’t have this competition, the coaching crew and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria and all that stood with us to have a better edition of this competition,” he said.

Also speaking, the Chairman committee of the competition, Yomi Seriki, appreciated the sponsor of the competition for investing in the grassroots football tournament in the state.

Seriki also noted the improvement in the second edition of the competition and appreciated the clubs and coaches who participated in the competition.

“I am very happy to see that there is so much more improvement in this year’s competition than the maiden edition in terms of officiating, participation and discipline. I appreciate the sponsor for believing in us and I am happy for the overall success,” he said.

The Proprietor of Ashysam FC, Samuel Asogbon, said he was happy that his team won the competition and would fortify it ahead of the coming competitions.
